Emo Superman

First Emo Post Of The Year.

Dad's back in the hospital.  I just found out this morning, because I went home feeling sick yesterday and left my cellphone in the car.

His doctor had found some sort of infection in his system before we came down last weekend and started him on antibiotics for it. Thursday, when he was at dialysis, they gave him the second (of seven) doses.  By the time mom got over there at dinner time, he was acting strangely and hallucinating.  They got him back over to Northeast Baptist and they spent most of the night in the ER.

The good news is there's no sign of stroke or other serious issue.  The bad news is there's no sign of anything else, for that matter.  They've got him in a private room and they're running more tests and monitoring him.  Mom says the odd behavior comes and goes.  The weirdest was when he asked to borrow her cellphone so he could call his mother (who died in 1984).

I hope this is just a reaction to the medication.

In other news, still on the emo front, big condolences to darkpurplemusic, whose dad succumbed to a stroke Thursday night.  He was a wonderful man, and I consider it a privilege to have known him.

Update

They took him in for a minor surgical procedure this evening to remove the dialysis shunt.  Apparently it was the source of the infection.  They got it out OK and he was doing alright.  They've moved him up to the cardiac care ward as a precaution based on his past history so they can monitor him better.

I'm guessing they'll keep him there until the infection is dealt with, then do a new shunt.  Joy.  Still, as Jane points out, they know what's wrong and what to do about it.
