Because I'm Still in my 80s Place, a Topic for Consideration:

"Maybe it has to do with the yellow jumpsuits.  Or the plastic hairpieces.  Or the surgical masks.  Why else would it be the case that Devo -- one of the most important and influential bands of the last 25 years -- is so frequently overlooked, underrated, and taken for granted?  Two possibilities spring to mind:
  1. Devo's innovations, both conceptual and musical are now so firmly embedded in our cultural/social vocabulary that it's hard to recall a time when they didn't exist.
  2. A lot of people don't like to be confronted with stark truths about their lives, even when they're delivered by five guys wearing plastic flowerpots on their heads."
Discuss!
